    September 16, 2011 by admin

    San Diego’s Business Mixer & Expo brings together the local business leaders from dynamic companies throughout the greater San Diego.

    SDBME’s goal is to create an environment for businesses to develop new relationships, research the market for the leading products and services, and learn about the latest business practices.

    I will be participated in the Blogger panel with @mamamaryshow @jenboydsd and @ooph on “Pitching & Working with Bloggers”.

    The event takes place at the San Diego Town & County Convention Center, Tuesday, September 20, 2011, 5:00pm – 9:00pm. Come join us, if you can.

    The $20 online ($25 at the door) admission includes seminars on social media and the opportunity to stroll the convention hall and network with San Diego’s business elite.

    The first 6 people to comment on this post will get a free ticket to the event.

  2. Meet the Team: Glimpse Behind the Scenes

    March 1, 2011 by @mattsurfs

    According to Aesop, “slow and steady wins the race.”

    If that’s the case, we are certainly in a winning position with SDBloggers. Admittedly, we are off to a bit of a slow start. That doesn’t imply that we aren’t committed to ‘winning’ or that we don’t have a palpable sense of urgency to get going, because we do! And we will.

    There’s been a lot of planning, team building, and resource alignment that needed to take place in order for SDBloggers to move beyond a one-man-band. Getting mindshare, talent, and the right people involved is never an easy task. But, I am eager to report that we have the core team in place that I believe will take our community blog to the next level.

    I am happy to announce that Keith Booe will be our official Community Director for SDBloggers. I have worked with Keith over the last 90 days bringing him up to speed on the community players and sharing my content vision for the site. I expect him to run with it (after all he’s a marathoner) and take it the distance.

    As Community Director for SDBloggers, Keith will:

    1. Recruit content contributors
    2. Establish a guest author program
    3. Create a mentorship program for Interns

    The byproduct of Keith’s work will be the curation of great local content and quality editorial from regional bloggers. His contributions will create a great destination for stellar blog content that serves to create a rising tide for San Diego bloggers. I couldn’t be more excited to accept Keith’s help and leverage his senior management experience to bring a strong organizational structure to our group.

    The next addition to the team is Katie Dillon, aka La Jolla Mom. Katie has joined our team to head up events at SDBloggers. Her official title is Events Director and she will be responsible for organizing and coordinating events for our group. Katie and I have worked closely over the last few months determining the best venues, event format, and thinking creatively about ways our group can contribute to various charities and worthy causes. I am thrilled to pass along my vision for these events and have Katie take them to another level. We just scheduled our first event under Katie’s direction and you won’t want to miss it! Be sure you’re signed up for the meetup group to stay connected to all of our events.

    That’s the all-star squad that’s going to be shinning the limelight on you, our community of local bloggers. If you’d like to contribute in anyway, there is plenty of opportunity to help with content creation, website development, and community management. We cannot create a rising tide without a surge of effort and quality content. Our vision is completely reliant on the community to adopt our belief in order to accomplish our goals.

    We feel it is about time San Diego has a blog community that other cities pay attention to, learn from, and collaborate with. With your participation, SDBloggers can help achieve that mission.

    Thank you for your patience, attention, and help. We look forward to writing the future with you!

  3. Where we’re At, an Update of Sorts

    December 29, 2010 by @mattsurfs

    Well, it’s been two weeks since our first post and I wanted to give you a little glimpse of what’s happening behind the scenes.

    The focus right now has been on slotting great content producers into our editorial calendar for Q1 next year. We’ve spent the bulk of our time sharing our vision with local thought-leaders and getting buy-in for our idea. Based on the conversations I’ve been having, I am feeling very confident that San Diego needs a launch pad for digital creatives and viral content.

    Our first goal was to create a directory for San Diego Bloggers which would allow us to centralize San Diego blogs into one wiki-like repository for our community.

    The Blogger directory will serve as our collective RSS reader for those interested in reading feeds from San Diego Bloggers. Right now, this is a work in progress. We’ve taken all of the feeds from members in our directory and bundled them in our Google Reader Account for san.diego.blogs@gmail.com.

    Secondarily, we are sharing our vision for SDBloggers with guest authors who we think could set the bar for our new digital outpost. We’ve heard great responses from many of you and we want thank you for your willingness to contribute. We look forward to seeing what you can do!

    We’ve just outlined the first draft of our content guidelines for guest authors. We want our readers to know the expectations we are setting for all of our writers and have a chance to contribute to the direction of that work.

    Lastly, there are a few house cleaning items we’re taking care of on our website. Those are include, but are not limited to the following:
    * We want to display Pingbacks – we probably won’t turn on comments yet
    * Facebook ‘like’ integration – a necessary evil
    * Improve Directory UI – working on scaling and a few design kinks
    * Guest Author Box – for guest bloggers

    We’re streamlining our outposts. We used to be on Facebook, Twitter, FriendFeed, LinkedIn, MeetUp, Ning, BuddyPress, Disqus etc… it was too much. We’ve paired down to Twitter and MeetUp and that’s about it. Begrudgingly, I think we need to reintroduce Facebook. [Update: I think we are going to stick to Twitter.]

    Oh, and I know some of you will be happy to hear the changes we are making to our Twitter profile. We used to retweet every post from every San Diego blogger. While this served us well when we were <100 bloggers, the current workflow doesn’t offer readers or bloggers a lot of value and we’re rethinking what we do there.

    I know we’ve been quiet, but as you can see, there’s but quite a bit of behind the scenes activity. We’re still in stealth mode and probably will be for the month of January. Right now we are setting our sights on a mid-February launch.

    In closing I’d like to thank everyone for their contributions to our directory and blog. This idea requires a collaborative effort and it wouldn’t be possible without your participation. To that end, if you’d like to get involved with our project on a more official level, here are a few role players we’re looking for:
    * Community Manager
    * WordPress Developer
    * Event Coordinator

    That’s the state of our Blogger union in San Diego as of 2010. More to come.

    Looking forward to the new year!
